Dehydrated Meat Stew
Here’s one of my favorite dried recipes - Meat Stew
Cut one pound of beef or wild game into 3/4 inch cubes, brown thoroughly, and dry on a cookie sheet.
Cube two large potatoes, one broccoli stalk, and 3 carrot sticks, blanch, and dry. Cut the broccoli head into smaller portions and dry raw with two diced cloves of garlic and a small to medium diced onion.
Thaw and blanch one cup of frozen cranberries, poke a hole in each, and dry.
Mix together 2 T sugar and 2 T Worcestershire Sauce and dry on a pie tin.
Mix all these dried ingredients together in one bag with 1 1/2 t salt, 1/8 t pepper, 1 t paprika, and 1 crushed bay leaf. Bag separately 1/2 c rye flour.
At camp, rehydrate in a large pot, adding water as it absorbs into the ingredients. Cook until meat and veggies are tender (about one hour). Mix the rye flour with a little cold water and add as needed to thicken.
Feeds four hungry campers. Don’t forget to bring instant pudding for desert!
