Nine shopping days until Christmas, which includes Christmas Eve, the day that, at one time in my life, I did 100% of my holiday shopping. It must have been the old “work better under pressure” thing, plus the universal spirit of shared humanity that lights up that day.
I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I do remember the year everyone on my list got a music album--all purchased in one fell swoop at the Ben Franklin store in Paynesville. Ah, those were the days!
Immediately following the holidays, we’ll be looking for help with this winter’s “My Room” project. We have a hard working young man who helped maintain the Nature Park all summer, and showed a strong commitment to the things we do, and we would like to reward him by sprucing up his bedroom.
This will be our fourteenth My Room project, an activity that is enormously bonding and rewarding to everyone involved. It’s a great way for us to show our appreciation, and a powerful way to show kids they are important to a broader circle than just their immediate family and friends. It’s a baptism into the world of community fellowship.
Please call me at 320-250-0464 if you are interested in helping--either with hands-on participation, or with funding.
Speaking of funding, thanks to all for the tremendous support we’re receiving from our recent mailing. It’s overwhelming to know so many see value in what we do.
Please don’t be offended if you see me on the street and I don’t personally thank you. I eventually see all the mail that comes back, but not always right away. Know that your donations, large and small, mean the world to me personally, and to all in our organization.
